Article 243.4. Destruction or damage of military graves, as well as monuments, steles, obelisks, other memorial structures or objects perpetuating the memory of those killed in the defense of the Fatherland or its interests or dedicated to the days of military glory of Russia

  1. Destruction or damage of military graves located on the territory of the Russian Federation or beyond its borders, as well as monuments, steles, obelisks, other memorial structures or objects perpetuating the memory of those killed in the defense of the Fatherland or its interests or dedicated to the days of military glory of Russia (including memorial museums or commemorative signs on the battlefield), as well as monuments, other memorial structures or objects dedicated to persons who defended the Fatherland or its interests, in order to damage the historical and cultural significance of such objects –

is punishable by a fine of up to three million rubles or in the amount of the convicted person’s salary or other income for a period of up to three years, or forced labor for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period.

  1. The same act committed:

a) a group of persons, a group of persons by prior agreement or an organized group;

b) in relation to military graves, as well as monuments, steles, obelisks, other memorial structures or objects perpetuating the memory of those killed in the defense of the Fatherland or its interests during the Great Patriotic War or dedicated to the days of military glory of Russia during this period (including memorial museums or commemorative signs on the battlefield), and as well as monuments, other memorial structures or objects dedicated to persons who defended the Fatherland or its interests during the Great Patriotic War;

c) with the use of violence or with the threat of its use, –

is punishable by a fine in the amount of two to five million rubles or in the amount of wages or other income of the convicted person for a period from one year to five years, or compulsory labor for up to four hundred and eighty hours, or forced labor for up to five years, or imprisonment for the same period.
